I am currently using Life Extension booster with vitamin K included. I would like to add nattokinase to my Life Extension regiment. Is there any known contraindications for taking these two substances toghether?
- We know of none, although vitamin K is necessary for the formation of thrombin precursors, which in turn act on fibrinogen to form fibrin in a blood clot, while nattokinase is fibrinolytic (breaks up fibrin).

Natto, a fermented soy food eaten widely in Japan, is rich in vitamin K and nattokinase. (Nattokinase is derived from natto, hence its name.) If you search Medline, you will find studies that seem to indicate that this is a healthy food, protecting against blood clots and osteoporosis. If I could find a source in my area, I would buy natto. As it is, I take both vitamin K and nattokinase.

I am currently taking Nattozyme Nattokinase prescribed by my doctor. He tells me the Allergy Research Group supplement does not contain vitamin K, although I know that the form eaten by the people of Japan does. This is available through LEF. It isn't working for me but I believe it's caused by overuse of nicotine lozenges. I quit smoking 5 years ago after a 43 year habit, and now am nearly as addicted to the lozenges! My fibrinogen was 555 five months ago, 496 after two months of Nattokinase, then 556 in August. I will have another test in a week or two. My doctor tells me he has never seen a case where Nattokinase didn't work so it no doubt is due to nicotine constricting the arteries. I'm working on my habit!

Had Natto Rolls at a japanese resturant last week for the first time....man, tough to eat...tastes kind of like brewers yeast mixed with vegimite.

I live in Salt Lake City and eat natto on a daily basis.  If you know of any Asian food stores, I would recommend that you pay them a visit to find out if they have natto.
Natto, in my opinion, is one of the top 5 healthiest foods on earth.  Not only it contains nattokinase but also the highest amount of bacterial vitamin K (the best form of vitamin K).  Of particular interest, natto has superlative amounts of genistein in a highly bioavailable form, unlike most other soy products.   Genistein has been shown to activate the life-extending sirtuin gene.   The packaging of so many health benefits in a single food is worth putting up with its peculiar smell!  lol

Assuming we find natto, how can us Americans get it past our nose?  How do you use it?   Could we mix it in soup and maybe not notice?

I've had cooked dishes that contain natto at a Japanese restaurant.  It wasn't nearly so bad as the raw natto.  But of course, I don't know what effect that has on the vitamin K2 or the enzymes.

My olfactory sense is quite weak so the smell of natto doesn't really bother me personally.  It comes with mustard in the box I buy, the mustard alone makes it more savory for me.  I guess you could get used to it through the "acquired taste" principle.  Otherwise, I don't know, maybe add a curry mix to it?

I am on coumadin for atrial fibrillation and am thinking of replacing the coumadin with nattokinase. The nattokinase is suppose to have similar attributes and more compared to coumadin except that nattokinase may not be as long lasting, so I understand it would have to be taken more often during the day. If anyone is taking nattokinase as a relacement for coumadin or has been informed by a physcian that nattokinase serves the same purpose as coumadin, please let me know.

Hi guys,
This is Stephen, I recently saw a health show and the nutritionist said that people are confused about vitamin K. Natural vitamin K will make your blood thicker if it is too thin and thinner if it is too thick! I wish I had a website for you to read. You might want to do some research about this.

I have used nattokinase in capsule form for several years. Took it originally after being 'stented' for coronary atherosclerosis then experiencing signs of same problem after two years, just as statistically predicted. The Natto cleared the restriction in days and I have never had any problems since. HOWEVER, here's where it gets interesting - a few weeks ago I had a pumonary embolism, fortunately only a small clot-they said- and they put me on Coumadin. I am totally devastated by this as I was confident I had the best protection from such an event. I would like to believe that I could replace the warfarin with natto like Art Flemming but y'know I havent met a conventional doctor yet who will admit to having even HEARD of Natto. So forget advice from that quarter I guess.

So PLEEZE if anyone has information on this I am direly in need of it. Thanks for listening!

It would be good if you could track down and speak with Dr. Ralph Holsworth.  He might know more about nattokinase than anyone in the world.  Also, IAGEN carries a new, more potent form of nattokinase called PN20K.  If I am not mistaken PN20K is Ralph's find so IAGEN might be able to get you in touch with him.  A combination of that at lumbrokinase might be beneficial as well.  Good luck to you.

Well, I saw that but I was unable to determine if that's the new PN20K version or not.  I seriously doubt it is.
