I used to take creatine monohydrate several years ago (on and off between age 20 -23) while running track and field in college. I am now 29 years old and would really like to start taking this supplement again. The reasons why I want to take this again is because I have always had a problem gaining weight (currently 6 feet tall and 148 pounds) and want to gain about ten pounds of muscle mass. When I used to take creatine (along with supplements such as designer protein, Z-Max, Methoxy-pro and flaxseed oil), I was able to get my weight up to 170 pounds. The reason I stopped taking this supplement along with all the other bodybuilding supplements was because I started to lose some of my hair. Hair loss is common in my family and thought that not taking these supplements would at least slow down the hair loss (I also have made changes to my diet since then and have been able to keep most of my hair). Also, after doing some research on the web on this supplement, I noticed that other people that were around the same age as me were complaining about creatine causing acne and hair loss. Does anyone on this board feel that creatine could be a contributed factor in causing hair loss if the person taking it is genetically predisposed to losing their hair?

look at the flow-charts of the chemistry in your body.
the chart detailing creatine goes no where near
the chart that details di-hydro-testosterone
(the cause of hair-loss and acne).

Z-Max, Methoxy-pro
these testosterone-boosters initiate the two problems.
you were producing more testosterone
than you were using,
so it degrades into problem-causing substances.
time your ingestion to your expenditure,
so as to maximize your nitrogen-retention
and minimize the undesirable side-effects.

lei.talk, thank you for the information on creatine. What brand of creatine monohydrate would you consider to be the best quality and purest (no fillers)?

i have always gotten mine from
roger prince at anabol naturals
because he was the first person
to sell quality aminos at less than sixty dollars an ounce
(joe weider's "life essence" was ridiculously over-priced).

some thing like twenty years ago,
i found a tiny classified-ad in one of the muscle-mags
offering a price much better than weider's tiny bottle.
the quality was excellent,
the price was satisfactory
and the effect was as research had indicated.

i have not done a comparison, since then.
this sub-routine of my nutritional algorithm
performs per my expectations,
so, i have not taken the time to re-examine it.
"if it works, don't fix it."

i would be greatly surprised,
if lef's creatine was not of the highest quality.

for optimal affect, please see "how to use creatine".

for sixty dollars, at anabol naturals

you can get a three-month supply
of both creatine powder and glutamine powder
(for the post-exercise drink described above).
