In his new book (Ageless Face, Ageless Mind October 2007) , Dr. Perricone announces a new form of carnosine that actually breaks AGEs.  He even states that he is the first one to announce it, even before the Life Extension Foundation.  It is not available on his site yet however. When I called I was told that they don't know when some of the new items listed in his book will be available.  Does anyone have any infomation on this "new" type of carnosine?  (Great book by the way.)

The name of this new carnosine is mCAR or modified carnosine. There isn't any information online that I can find.

The book focuses on the damaging effects of glycation on the skin and the body and ways to combat the production and effects of AGEs (advanced glycation endproducts). Incidentally, supplemental beta-alanine combines with excess histidine in muscles to produce carnosine there, which has the effect of raising low acidic pH back to the normal range around 7. I have wondered if carnosine's impact on pH might be connected with suppression of the cytoskeleton in senescent cells. The favorable impact of carnosine on increasing the number of cell divisions available
prior to senescence is usually attributed to its antioxidant and antiglycating properties in relation to DNA defense. Telomeric DNA, not being repaired during transcription like an active gene, needs solid antioxidant defense to yield the maximum number of cell divisions.

I see that LEF just added a new product on Jan. 18th called Super Carnosine.   I suspect that we will be reading about it in the next magazine. Could it be the new Mcar - modified carnosine?

Well, the new carnosine wasn't the Mcar. It's now been a year since Dr. Perricone published that book and announced the new age breaker mcar. There is no sign anywhere online or on the Perricone site of this highly anticipated product. If anyone ever sees it, let us know. If it's being patented or going through an FDA testing process it will be years, if ever, before we have access to mcar.  I guess that dancer in the book is the only one that gets to erase her wrinkles with mcar.....

Since Dr. Perricone's book came out he's been getting questions on his website on how to get the wonderful Mcar.  He recomends buying carnosine from lef.org.         It appears that the age breaking mcar is still not available, likely because it's patent pending. Check out zinc carnosine at www.swansonvitamins.com . I think it is a very comparable product. They also have a great wrinkle cream with DMAE and Alpha Lipoic Acid. roll

Will a vegetarian/vegan source of carnosine be available soon?

Interesting how many amino acids or amino acid based nutrients have names suggestive of meat or beef: carnosine, carnitine, taurine (taurus), creatine (from Greek "kreas" for "meat").
