I have a friend trying to stop smoking after many attempts. Are there any supplements that help with this?

Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw authored a booklet about
nutrition for smokers but it is long out of print. They suggested niacin to help control nicotine cravings. If you have not used niacin before, start with a low dose, because it does cause flushing, which is harmless but can be disconcerting if you have not experienced it.

Use lobelia extract. 2 dropperfuls whenever the urge to smoke hits. Lobeila is a cousin of tobacco and has the nice side effect of eventually making tobacco repulsive.

1) Ginseng has been shown to prevent the nicotine-induced release of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is what makes people feel good after smoking and is part of the addiction process.
Although intriguing, no studies to date have examined whether ginseng supplements can help people quit smoking.
