"Furthermore, your body needs absolutely no help in adjusting its pH. Normally, the pH of blood and most body fluids is near seven, which is close to neutral. This is under very tight biological control because all of the chemical reactions that maintain life depend on it. Unless you have serious respiratory or kidney problems, body pH will remain in balance no matter what you eat or drink" Dr Andrew Weil http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/QAA98873/Does-Alkaline-Water-Promote-Health.html | | Back to Top

This is extremely important for good health. When these proper pH values are not maintained serious health problems develop. What you eat or drink within reason does not effect these values. ...Oscar | | Back to Top

There are HUNDREDS of scientific research articles that prove beyond doubt that what we eat and drink dramatically effects the body's ability to maintain our pH level at 7.365 and when we put the body under this stress it struggles.
What he is saying is true - the body will do anything it has to in order to maintain this level of pH but this job causes so much illness, sickness, disease and tiredness.
Living alkaline is simply reducing the stress on the body and giving it the tools it needs to thrive instead of being in a constant state of panic by trying to neutralise the acid crap we consume!
I've been researching, blogging and learning about this lifestyle for nearly six years now and my time spent with Dr Young has me absolutely convinced that the alkaline diet is the best approach to health.
I've had a read of the link from the original poster but this is just a sales page with no real information in it. I hope you don't mind but I'll link to my blog here with my definition (both scientific and simple) of what the Acid Alkaline Balance actually means. This article is full of information and research so I hope it adds value here.

His thinking was exactly how I started out when someone mentioned the acid-alkaline thing to me first because it makes sense to someone with a little science/nutrition background. Even on Quackwatch.com there's an MD saying this very thing - that it's about the pH of the foods.
But low and behold, it's not about that. It's about the end metabolites of the foods. And the homeostatic mechanisms that keep the blood pH at 7.4ish are what cause a lot of the degenerative diseases of aging.
If you want to learn more about this (without following the spam-tastic links above) Google Scholar these names: Thomas Remer & Friedrich Manz, Lynda Frassetto & Anthony Sebastian, Wildon Farwell & Eric Taylor. Look them up in those pairs as they worked together.
You could even go back to 1912 and look up H.C. Sherman and A.O Gettler. There's a progression from these two through the names above - it's interesting to see the science develop.
Wisdom comes with humility. If you think you know already and become arrogant, you soon will look a fool and forced to eat humble pie. Best to be humble to begin with and constantly question and seek the truth. The tricky bit comes when that humility brings so much knowledge and wisdom that you become arrogant. See line one above. | | Back to Top

I've actually just published my first Alkaline Diet Cookbook if anyone is interested? I'm very proud of it and am really pleased to see it is getting some great reviews. It was a real labour of love!
mbn_van-bc - glad to see you referencing Lynda Frassetto - her (and her team) have done some outstanding work in this field in the last 5 years and it is great to see some widely respected researchers giving this area of health the time and respect it deserves.
