My wife has a diabetes related condition called "lazy stomach" in which her stomach does not move food out as it should.  She has been put on Reglan for this condition.  However, it apparently has side effects which include severe depression, which my wife is experiencing.  We must get her off of Reglan, but are not able to find alternatives.  Any suggestions??

This is a new one to me as I've never heard of it before. People who don't have enough stomach acid have very slow stomachs and food will sit in them for hours and hours but I would think the Dr could tell if this were the case.

Has she ever tried digestive enzymes? It may not make things speedy but I would think if she has enough acid and other enzymes such as pepsin, amalyse etc. the process would improve. I've been taking digestives for over 20 years quite successively. Have had to increase the betaine HCL as I've aged though. I could tell because my iron was low and they wouldn't accept my blood donation. I upped the HCl and then went back and it was fine. No, I do not take iron pills either.

Digestive enzymes cannot replace Reglan.  There is no replacement for Reglan - it directly affects motility - moving the stuff down the esophagus, and is the only thing for certain disorders.  Enzymes are good replacements for proton pump inhibitors, but the last poster obviously doesn't know about Reglan and admitted it.

On the other hand, Reglan is a very bad drug with significant and dangerous side effects, which should not be taken unless it is absolutely necessary.
