Butyl is a component of many different compounds. It can only exist as a free radical for a very short period of time. There are many compounds that possess a butyl component and I am sure some are harmful. For example: the radical butyl needs one more hydrogen atom to become the stable compound butane. I do take a personal interest in this. For one thing I believe that : BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOLUENE can be very benificial to many people suffering from life threatening viral diseases such as hepatitis-C. And I consider it very misleading of you to lump all compounds with BUTYL as part of thier names as toxc to be very misleading. Also, I am one of those Viet Nam veterans. I contracted hepatitis-C through blood transfusions and believe it was BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOUENE that CURED me of that dreadful disease.
