I've been experimenting a lot with garlic over the past year in order to remove moles.  This method is almost perfect.  For me, at least, I prick the mole with a needle and hold a piece of garlic over one of my little small moles for 20 minutes and the next day I could peel it off.  Problem?  Irritation, big time.

Has anyone ever tried garlic for removing a mole?  What could be done to prevent the redness of the surrounding skin?  All these people on here that are buying products like C-Herb and Bio-T amaze me.  Why not just use garlic?  I don't get it.

I used garlic in an attempt to remove a mole on my thigh for practice. It wasn't really large, maybe half the size of a pencil eraser. I used a needle to pick the mole and then rubbed in garlic and bandaged a tiny piece to the surface overnite. I washed it off in the morning. I did this for four nights and had developed a scab where the mole was. When the scab finally fell off it was a pink crater but I could see that I didn't get all of the mole. I actually expected this when I stopped applying the garlic. I just wanted to see how the healing process was.

The mole has been growing and getting darker since I obviously didn't get all of it. The skin is still a bit red around it after 3-4 months. I haven't applied any silicone patches or mederma or any other type of scar reducing remedy. I'm wondering if the redness left around the mole remains if using other methods besides garlic. I'm also wondering how long the redness will remain. Does bio-t or cherb or castor oil leave the same redness?

I was very careful when applying the garlic trying to make sure I didn't get any of the surrounding skin. It still got irritated. I'm not sure whether it was from being in close association with the immune response to the mole or because garlic juice had in fact gotten on it. If it was caused by garlic juice getting on the surrounding skin maybe there is something that could be applied that would prevent the garlic from penetrating. Any ideas would be great.

You could have applied some vaseline around the mole so that the garlic wouldn't have affected the nearby area. I think I'll stick to C-herb. Don't have to worry about surrounding tissue, getting it all or having it stay red for so long.

Yes, I'd definietly put some oil of some kind over it. Emu, natural vitamin E, coconut etc. Maybe a variety of different ones over a few days and see which is the most soothing and takes the red out. Might also try some fresh aloe vera leaf on it. The inside gel part.

c-Herb is out of the question for me, because of the moles being on my face.  I heard and saw pictures of what C-Herb does to the skin.  Ouch.

Do you really think that vaseline would've have prevented the surrounding skin from getting red?  Interesting.  I might try that.  But seriously, is anyone shocked that it only took 20 minutes of the garlic being pressed on the mole to form a scab the next day?  And it does look like it got all of the mole.  Perhaps it's maybe because my moles are fairly small?  They're about the size of this period .

Check this out.  I found this site and I'm really puzzled by the claim that's made.  Iodine can remove a mole?!?  Wonder if there's any scar.

I have recently had some information on mole removal sent to me, and was told that the best method to try is the Castor oil/baking soda combination (other members have mentioned Casoda, but no one has said whether they have tried it). I have been using it for 8 days now and it stings a bit and is changing colour, but nothing else is happening. When you say the moles "fall off", do you mean they lliterally fall off, or do they just disappear? And do they loosen up first or does it just happen suddenly? If anyone has info on the process of Casoda, I'd love to hear from you. I am in Australia and don't think we can get the C herb here.

There are a lot of people who have shared their experiences with different mole removal methods at http://www.healthboards.com. Search for the "no more moles" thread. There are several continuations of the same thread with a lot of info.

I'm going to give garlic another try but this time I will use a qtip to apply a ring of vaseline around the mole. This will hopefully reduce the redness by preventing the garlic juice from irritating the surrounding skin.

I'm also going to attempt the castor oil and baking soda method on a different mole. I've read that it is less aggressive but is often effective at reducing the size of a mole. I'm going to get everything I need and hopefully start this week.

I would like to try c-herb also but it is quite expensive. If the above methods fail it will probably be my next choice.

I would do only one mole at a time and let your body martial its forces against it.

leppert, what do you think of the iodine removing moles?  Do you think that's possible?  Also, is there any ways to remove moles by taking something internally?

Blade, I'm not sure that iodine would do it, plus it probably would take longer than you'd want to mess with it. There are some C-herb type products that can be taken internally, but I'm not really sure I'd want to risk it for a mole.

I've read that 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide would work but when I tried it on one it hurt too much for me to continue. I reverted to the C-herb and it went well.

Please help me. I tried the garlic thing and the area around my mole is irritated and darker and i just want it to go away. I don't even care if my mole goes away or not. I never even wanted it to go away. I just wanted it to look smaller cause someone made fun of me cause of how big it was... please tell me if it goes away by itself eventually and if there is a way to get it to go away faster cause i can't go to school like this.

Thank you so much.

Please help me. I'm begging you. Please God let someone in this forum help me or just let it dissapear by itself.

p.s. no, it's not cancerous...

I have been reading everyone's postings and I have a question.  Does anyone have any idea as to how to remove a planter's wart on the bottom of a foot?  I've had one for about 4 years.  I've had it removed surgically (what a bloody disaster
that was) only to have it grow back. Help!

I just wanted to add an addendum to this thread regarding the risk of using garlic topically. I tried the garlic method, and it does indeed work. However, if you have sensitive skin or the mole is in a place that gets seen a lot (like your face), I would AVOID this method.

"Fresh garlic applied to the skin could result in blistering, chemical burns, or dermatitis. The chemicals that give garlic its smell may also irritate or burn the skin, especially when fresh garlic is allowed to stay on the skin for prolonged periods of time or when it is covered with a waterproof barrier such as a plastic bandage. Cases of serious burns have been reported by individuals who have no known sensitivities to garlic."
Source: http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/PrintablePages/herbMonograph/0,11475,4041,00.html

You'll end up with (superficial, but very noticeable) chemical burns in the surrounding area due to exposure to a chemical in the garlic known as allicin. The burns look like typical dermatitis (eczema) and doctors might consider it "contact dermatitis." You are essentially burning the mole away, chemically.

If you do try it, avoid any collateral damage by exposing as little of the surrounding skin as possible to the garlic. This sort of irritation may take up to four weeks to clear up completely!

For all my life i had a small mole on my nose. Nobody ever said anything and not to be conceited, but i'm a pretty girl. But as i live in florida, i'm exposed to a lot of sun which over time darkened my mole rather quickly. I then decided to look up mole removal...i have seen such things as using garlic and a needle to remove a mole...i thought that was just absurd! So i decided to just take a chance and get it surgically removed. I heard many rumors and read many forums about people saying the scar is horrible and don't do it. But i thought to myself...i can cover a scar with makeup...i can't do that to a big black mole. So just a month and half ago exactly i got the mole on my nose surgically removed. I LOVE THE OUTCOME!!! I am no longer wondering if the person talking to me is looking at my mole. It costed $300 and i actually went to a cosmetic surgeon...i heard that's the way to do it. I dont know if i just got lucky or what but the scar is very very very minimal...i dont even notice it after a month and a half! I got 3-4 stitches- he says he used the thinnest thread- mayb that helped. Either way, i wish i woulda done it sooner...i'm 21 years old and a lot more confident. if you have any ?s about the procedure that didn't hurt at all! please email me at myspace0123@yahoo.com ...i can even show u pics...ps i went to work the next day...at a nightclub...no one even noticed the stitches...email me :) put mole ? in the subject.
good luck

Hi, i've been putting garlic on my mole for 3 weeks now. My mole is located beneath my right ear. My mole is the size of a pencil eraser. So far the mole has gotton much flatter, but its still dark reddish. So i'm deciding if i should continue, or try another method, like ACV? Tell me your experience with the garlic remedy.

Please reply to give me suggestions.

Thank you.

My suggestion is to go to a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to have it removed.

Hey, I am trying the garlic method. I cut a garlic clove up and taped it directly and securely onto the mole which I pricked before and nothing has happened for almost 3 days now, not even irritation. What am I doing wrong?

Is there any side effect if we removed our mole?

The garlic method works fine. the mole peels off in a few days.

For anyone who is trying this, i suggest you to put moisturising cream around the mole preventing redness or
dry skin.

Althought im not sure if the mole will come back?

If so how can i prevent it from coming back?

Someone asked how to get rid of plantar warts.

You aren't going to believe this but the solution is duct tape.  Yes, put a piece of duct tape over the wart, if you want to cut a piece that just fits under a bandaide so you don't feel funny, that works.  But keep it on until it starts falling off.  Takes about a week.  Like magic.

You will be amazed!!!

I know this thread is old, but it came up in a google search I was doing.  Just wanted to report my findings.  I tried iodine first, since I had some, and its a known antiseptic, and didn't seem as "extreme" as other solutions.  I have to say, it didn't work at all for me, but maybe I didn't give it enough time?  I did the needle scratch first (a few times actually) and did the iodine thing for 5 days, but it didn't do much except stain things dark brown.  I think any method you choose should only take a few days.

Next I tried 35% hydrogen peroxide.  I thought this was another good choice because its a great antiseptic, and considering you can treat one mole using less than 12 DROPS of the stuff, one liter will treat about 1600 moles!  :)

I found some online for $10 ($18 with shipping).  First a word of caution, 35% H2O2 is no joke, its a hazardous material, you need to be careful with it, and immediately wash any unintended skin it gets on with lots and lots water.  You can't be an idiot when handling this stuff.

I poured a little into a small container, so I would not contaminate the rest, which I put into my freezer for max storage life (it does not freeze, and will stay potent for decades if not centuries, in a freezer).

SO I scratched the mole with a pin, then I took a q-tip and dipped it into the H2O2, just a drop or probably less than a drop, it should not be dripping, if it is, shake off the excess.  Then I just dabbed the entire mole with the q-tip - it should bubble and turn white, but it didn't sting at all for me (there shouldn't be nerve endings in a mole, but maybe there could be?).  You can protect the surrounding skill by putting some petroleum jelly around the mole before you do the hydrogen peroxide application.  Another idea I had but didn't try was that you could cut a hole the exact size of your mole, in a piece of tape (obviously has to be a kind of tape that sticks well to skin, you might even use a band-aid) and put this over the mole so the mole sticks though your hole but the surrounding skin is covered and protected).

I did not put any bandages over this at all, it drys on its own after a few minutes.  I re-applied H2O2 2 or 3 times a day for 4 days (usually just morning and evening).  By day three the mole had collapsed (not as high as it used to be) and turned dark, just like a lot of people have described.  I think I could have stopped the H2O2 after day 3 but I did it one more day anyway.  I only put some neosporin (triple antibiotic) on it and a little tea tree oil for the next couple days.  It was basically just a scab, and I was waiting to see what would happen, well by day 7 I was tired of waiting, and the scab was lifting around the edges anyway, so I took some tweezers and pulled the scab off.  There is a small crater where the mole was, and the skin is pinkish/reddish and irritated which is what I would expect.  I can't wait to see how it heals and if the mole grows back.

I have no idea if I should put some more H2O2 on to prevent the mole from growing back or not.  I am probably just going to wait and see what happens at this point, but overall I'm happy so far with the results.  I took pictures of it every day, I guess I'll wait until its done healing to post the full series from beginning to end (if anyone is interested).

Life Extension doesn't recommend one utilize this method to remove moles.  They are best removed by a dermatologist, who can determine if they are precancerous (dysplastic nevi).  If they are, then a margin of tissue around the mole also needs to be removed, and the rest of one's moles examined in case any look suspicious.  A biopsy can confirm if they are dysplastic or cancerous.

So you'd recommend surgery on all moles just in case they might be cancerous? The docs don't test it until they remove it right? So you can see exactly what they see on the surface, and you know how fast its been growing better than the doc does unless he has been observing you and taking measurements and recording them for years. If it doesn't look cancerous, and isn't getting bigger, why go to the trouble and expense of surgery?

Because a mole doesn't look cancerous, it doesn't mean that it is not.  Even physicians are fooled by a lot of them.  If it was cancerous or dysplastic, you should know about it, and have the appropriate margins removed.
