I'm a 23 year old female and I just began a CR regiment.  I've gotten to the point where I am eating mostly the right foods... lots of fruits and vegis, lean meats, whole grains, etc... and now I'm beginning to gradually reduce my caloric intake.  I've always been athletic; I used to do intense cardio about 5 times a week and lifted twice, and I'm sure I'll have to reduce this as I reduce my calories.  I would still like to exercise somewhat.  What would be the best way to incorporate the caloric restriction but still be able to do cardio maybe 3 times a week and lifting once?  Any advice?
Thanks!

Zone Diet is a CR programm very very popular in athletic world.

Also, for me Zone is the best antiaging diet.

The theory behind Zone and most other exercise schemes is to use body fat for energy. With training the body becomes better able to use fat for energy. The problem is getting enough nutrition to be able to work hard. When I was living in the Atkins world, I found I could do most hard workouts if I ate enough carb shortly beforehand. The Zone requires balanced meals three times a day with two balanced mini-meals inbween. The Zone also says when you reach your target weight, add fat to your daily diet. I don't like meat so I tried to add peanut butter and avocado.

A CR acolyte would probably tell you it's not possible to follow a CR scheme and exercise a lot.

Ultimately I found I could not work at 90% heart rate if I hadn't ingested pure carbs. The Zone balanced foods slow the absorption of sugars, making them unavaiable for intense workouts. Just my two cent opinion.

Yoga is good for what it is, a stretching routine. Most runners don't stretch enough. I certainly don't. But there's nothing "cardio" about yoga.

Not much of an advertisement for caloric restriction if it reduces your ability to exert yourself. Great, you are already hungry most of the time and now you are weak, too. One has to ask what the point of living is, I guess.

You should engage in nutrient timing to load up on enough carbs to do cardio without the negative side effects. Cardio is not really compatible with CR since it is highly catabolic. but if you insist on continung it frequently, then high intensity would probably be a lot easier than steady state and more effective for preserving lean muscle mass.
