One of particular concern is my blood pressure which has consistently been near 140/80 for most of my adult life. While I would attribute some of the high readings to the white-coat effect they are nonetheless concerning. I have been testing my blood pressure are home for some time now and have recorded significantly lower BPs than I get at either the doctors office, or at a plasma center where I donate. I believe that these differences are due to the different times at which the measurements have been taken. (eg. 137/76 daytime vs. 120/74 morning)
In order to establish a stable baseline when would be an appropriate time to take BP? I have been taking it in the morning (the only convenient time), shortly after waking, but I have been reading that that may not the best time to take it (BP can fluctuate in the morning). I am trying to avoid taking it multiple times throughout the day as my work and class schedule do not permit routine distractions, though I will find a way if it proves necessary. I simply do not want to fool myself into thinking my BP is lower than it truly is. | | Back to Top

My b.p. in twenties was often same as yours; my father also had that same b.p. However mine shot way up under stress whereas his was always the same. Always having the same reading is unusual though that is the case for some people according to a doctor's comment I once heard. I assume that would be the ideal.
Now getting into the late years my blood pressure is approaching the danger area. I am attempting to get it as low as possible before prescription drugs. But the life style changes have proven difficult. Only a couple of years ago when I was getting a lot of exercise, eating little, and drinking no alcohol my b.p. was actually lower than the historic 140/80. It was sort of shocking to find I could have b.p. in the 120/70 range especially at that age.
As to when to take b.p., you might try taking multiple readings for awhile to learn how much your b.p. varies from moment to moment. Mine varies greatly. I am using a wrist device. I take the left wrist, then the right wrist, then back to the left and then to the right. Then I average the systolic and average the diastolic and use the answer as my b.p. It only takes a few minutes (with a calculator). I have found that even though the results vary widely among the four readings, the average is pretty stable. Often by the way when the pulse goes up the b.p. goes down and vice versa. You should, whatever you do, take at least one reading every day. Having a single b.p. reading at the doctor's office seems pretty crude.
It seems as though the high reading of the day is what one should be concerned with. Rather that take anyone's word for it, if you really want to know when your high reading is, you should experiment until you are convinced yourself. You can find info on the internet about how b.p. normally varies through the day and night. As I recall it goes up quickly upon rising - that may be why, if true, you can get varying readings.. They say b.p. can vary during the night, depending for one thing on one's dreams and perhaps on health issues such as apnea. The only time I have ever gotten nose bleeds is while sleeping - which actually is worrying. Perhaps my highest b.p. occurs at night.
If there are 24 hr/day blood pressure devices that can be worn. I need to look into that myself.
Good luck with your CR adventure. | | Back to Top

I usually take my BP about and hour after I rise in the morning because I get up so early. I also take it mid-morning late after and evening. The BP meds I have taken over the last seven years never helped. about six weeks ago I decided, after research the issue, to take a herbal remedy, Mukta Vati. My BP before the MV was 170/101, pulse 85. Now my BP has been much lower, consistently, 136/73, pulse 61, sometimes lower. The only side effect I have experienced has been some nosebleeds, which I no longer have, and nasal congestion, which I still have, but trying different remedies to relieve. I know everyone cannot use herbs, but I just wanted you to know how I found relief. I have no vested interest in the MV, all I know that it has helped me greatly. I also take supplements daily (CoQ10, lysine, L-arginine, vita c, garlic, calcium/magnesium, etc.) and because I have thick blood, I take nattokanise. Also, I was told about "The Rice Diet" to help lower the use of sodium which also helps to lower BP and also to lose weight. I just got a book to read about it. I am curious about this diet lowering the sodium intake.

I had exactly same side effect from muktavati as you. First couple days it worked great, very calm feeling and blood pressure almost in normal range, was too happy, but from third day i started getting that congestion too, and couldn't breath properly especially at night, was mouth breathing probably whole nite. It was horrible since this medication did so good for me, and cuz of this stupid side effect i had to stop it too. Let me know if you find any solution for this side effect. i will let you know if i find anything. take care | | Back to Top

I haven't ordered it in a while, so I have to look up again on where I ordered it. I will post back when I find it, but I do remember it being a good price and fast shipping. | | Back to Top

I took my BP this evening as someone was asking me what it was and it was 125/73 . The only side effect I have had is that my pulse rate is very low. It is normally between 50-55 but can be under 50. Apparently this side effect is known but really it is a good side effect. I took the full dose for a year or so and then started to cut it down so now maintain my normal BP on just 1 tablet a day. It must be Ivy's mukta vati - there are lots of look alikes out there. Unfortunately today I have seen a directive banning it being sold in the UK because "it has been deemed medicinal" i.e. it works!!! I bet the big pharms are behind this!!! | | Back to Top

First of all it is VERY IMPORTANT to point out that Ivy's Mukta Vata with the hologram is a authentic one. I was just checking out another MV on EBay and it was not Ivy's and contained Rauwolfia which has actually been banned in UK by the NHS who used to prescribe it. Rauwolfia does cause nasal congestion so I wonder if those people on this forum who have complained about this were taking the inferior MV rather than the original authentic, safe Ivy's. OK so it is more expensive but I would rather be safe than sorry!!! | | Back to Top

I just recently went from 2 pills am to 2 pills both am and pm. Today by bp as 118/65. It had been running a little higher (135/75). Of course bp varies during the day so this is still a bit inconclusive. | | Back to Top

At the present I seem to malignant hypertension (spelling?) was subjected to over thirty formilations and now using Clonidine and Labatol. Was very unstable until i used L. Extension BP Management and feel much better.
So will give the Mukta Vata and let folks here know how it works...
At the present if I do not take my BP Meds right on the money,. it can rise to 200/ 217 over 100/111 within one hour, but from time to time even this stops working...
When I take the Clonidine/Labatol mix I have about 15 mins. before I "have" to lay down. Then I cannot help but go to sleep.
Thanks ..Dent | | Back to Top
