Subject is female, aged 55, with an excellent diet, which is supplemented by a range of vitamins and minerals. Diet is high in fruit and vegetables, olive oil etc. Only known ailment is Hashimoto’s Disease. Oroxine is taken for this.

Subject has been seeing an ophthalmologist for 15 years for high eye pressure. This has been stable in both eyes at around 20 (with Xalatan drops).

Approximately 2 months ago she suffered a vitreous gel detachment in the right eye. There is still some flashing.

Subject was checked a few days after by her ophthalmologist and the eye pressure was stable.  About 6 weeks afterwards a follow-up consultation revealed that the pressure in the right eye had risen from 20 to 26. The ophthalmologist changed the drops from Xalatan to Travatan.

A follow-up 4 weeks later showed that the pressure in the right eye had risen to 30. Left eye had reduced to 17. Opthalmologist changed drops to Lumigan.

Subject has lived with high stress levels during last 7 years and over the last few months this has increased. She is also prone to feeling extremely anxious (especially recently prior to appointments with the ophthalmologist).

Blood sugar levels have remained stable and OK during this time.

Opthalmologist is unable to ascertain a reason for the rise and says that stress is not a factor.

Questions:

  1. What other matters should be considered?
  2. What other treatments (medication and natural) should be considered?
  3. Is this rise in pressure likely to be an indicator of some other disease or problem?

I know someone who has had eye pressure increase and in his case it is exposure to BUTYL or specifically, exposure to 2-butoxyethanol.  He was working around it in 1989 as his boat supplied the Inipol EAP 22 to the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill cleanup workers.

Does this person have Idiopathic ANEMIA?

NJ Hazardous Chemical Fact sheet on 2-butoxyethanol

The anemia that should be suspect for this chemical expsoure is approaching acquired autoimmune hemolytic anemia

You might find LOW blood sugar, Low BP in general, and subnormal body temp when 'flu' symptoms or recent exposures are a distance away.

Look for fever if there is recent exposure

My ophthamologist performed laser surgery, iridectomy, on both of my eyes, resulting in drop from 26 to low normal numbers.  No drops needed, six months checkup scheduled. No pain, no after effects. Hope this helps you.
